Review:
v04.n600--in a discussion of the vocal technique of "hooking," a poster comments on an exercise of saying the word "hook": This version of 'Hook' was from an exercise used by Larra Browning Henderson in her book, I think. She used the /h/ to get the breath flowing, the /O/ as a fairly neutral vowel, and the /k/ as a big plosive, stopping the air at the back of the mouth so the student could feel the pressure behind it as 'support'. The /k/ was held and the student would observe what happened to the abdomen.

Review:
Excerpt from The Washington Post review (written by Tim Page) of soprano Lauren Wagner's Washington debut recital: Monday, May 13, 1998

The 'event' of the evening was the local premiere of a song cycle by Lori Laitman, 'I Never Saw Another Butterfly,' for voice...[and] saxophone...with texts taken from poems by doomed children interned at the Terezin concentration camp in World War II. Laitman writes idiomatically for both voice and sax (the two shadow each other throughout the cycle, in contrapuntal symbiosis); her harmonic language is mostly consonant, and she pays acute attention to her texts.
Surprisingly, considering the history behind this precious verse, some of the songs are quite lighthearted; even in the face of pure evil, children will be children, I suppose.
