Art Song
In addition to the links listed below, this site is home to DaringDiva's Descriptive Art Song Catalog. Please give it a look.
Browse through the links below or see the category menu on the left. See the Home page to read about the newest links, books, and songs I've added, or subscribe to the newsletter.
There are lots of links elsewhere on the site that are pertinent to art song. Particularly do not miss the General Singing page. It includes links to translation and diction sites, myth and symbol interpretation sites, and general interest singing sites. Finally, don't forget the Singer's Bibliography, which includes books about art song, repertoire, diction, translation, transliteration, etc. Enjoy!
The sites that I think are particularly practical for day-to-day work are marked with a toolbox icon. Many of the other sites are also excellent and worth your perusal.
General-purpose Art Song Links
Texts of Lieder and Art Songs a great site with many, many texts, some translations, and some transliterations. Could be a life-saver! For some reason people some times think this is part of daringdiva.com--nope!
- Mozilla Open Directory Project Lieder links a great list of even more links to art song resources.
Classical MIDI with Words a free MIDI player that also shows the words as they appear; many art song files available
Lieder-L discussion list for art songs; also see the archive for past postings.
- Our own message board for contemporary (and unusual) art song.
- GOpera although the title suggests otherwise, this site contains several song resources, particularly for German lieder. Also, OperaCat is a free database program available there which apparently includes a searchable database of lieder recordings, opera recordings or both.
- Classical Vocal Reprints--I include CVR here because they may be the most complete source for purchasing art song in the world. Please try them out! Other catalogs and publishers can be found here and here.
