News Archive: Page 13 of 2711/30/98: Site UpdateWell, I took the plunge: in a few days www.daringdiva.com will be our new address! And site visitors keep coming too, which is certainly encouraging. We crossed the 1000 mark for hits on the front page sometime today. Everyone please (continue to) spread the word about our site! I finished adding the Berg cycle I mentioned below to the database, but that won't go up until after the site moves (I have no more space here at earthlink). Some bibliography additions may be on the way soon, too. Please contribute! There are links to appropriate forms at the bottom of every bibliography and catalog page, as well as on the Email page. Andy Vores put me on the trail of some more composers: John McDonald (at Tufts), Peter Child (at MIT), and Bill Cutter (at MIT). I have already contacted them. Hopefully they will be interested in adding their songs to the catalog. He also mentioned John Musto (whom I already had on my list to eventually contact) and John Harbison (who is already quite famous in the classical music world). Rehearsals are tough, but I had this morning free for a while, and tomorrow morning completely free. I haven't done an Offenbach before--the style is surprisingly hard! Extremely energetic. Most of you will read this tomorrow, so, Happy December. 11/29/98: Site UpdateA quick update before bed. I've been in touch with Daron Hagen and Andy Vores about their songs--more info on their songs sometime soon, hopefully. Still trying to figure out where this site will move; I think I will probably choose addr.com, because they are cheap and yet rate decently in the various web-rating sites. I might move up to Burlee later if the site gets bigger still, but for now addr seems the best choice. I've been adding the basic information on Christopher Berg's Frank O'Hara songs in my few little breaks in rehearsal and in life. I'll also add the newest Richard Pearson Thomas set, Drum-Taps, soon. We had a particularly active week at the site for some reason, surpassing all previous week records of hits on the home page. Goodie! :-) Hello, new folks. It's time for a new newsletter but I am coming to wonder if that is such a valuable resource for me and for site visitors, because the sign-up list has not been growing much of late. Maybe I'll ask the newsletter subscribers what they think. As I have been planning the site move I have been pondering the name for the site. I thought about different names for the site over the past few days; my favorite reject was The Singer's Cynosure. I think we'll be sticking with our current appellation, though. Well, write me with any thoughts or suggestions. Have a good day! Song Catalog

11/26/98: Site UpdateHappy Thanksgiving! We had a great meal; my parents came up and brought a turkey and some drinks, while we provided everything else. It was great! Just a small song catalog update today--corrections and reviews to some of Andy Vores' song listings, a cycle by Dan Locklair, and a cycle by Christopher Berg (sans his musical comments, which will come in early '99, but I thought it would be good to go ahead and get the rest of the info in now for the music I have from Glendower Jones). We should have some new bibliography listings soon, but as I said earlier, progress on the site is going to slow a bit until most of my various gigs are over on December 14. I want to work on getting the Vocalist reviews and the Amazon prices and page numbers in, but I have little computer time right now, and even less Internet time. I'll just do everything a bit at a time and it will be done eventually! Site traffic has picked up considerably; I wonder if that is from the new Yahoo! listing? Song Catalog

11/23/98: Site NewsTwo news items to report for the site. First, Dianne James, American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA) National Mgr. of Admin. & Operations and Editor of AGMAzine wrote to say she wanted to mention the site in an upcoming issue of the AGMAzine. Fantastic! Hearing positive responses from site visitors and seeing increasing site traffic really helps keep me going. Second, Frank E. Warren, composer and proprietor of the Earnestly Music publishing house, has written back that he is interested in getting his own songs and the songs of the other composers in his publishing company in our catalog. I look forward to getting those entries in the catalog. Rehearsals have begun in earnest for our December show here at National Opera. I have a few other gigs coming up too that I need to work on; and Karyn and I are preparing for my parents coming up for Thanksgiving. We are well on our way to getting beyond our nasal infections, thanks to Zithromax, but we still are not 100%. I need to pursue getting perusal copies from Daron Hagen's publishers and I need to keep adding the Vocalist reviews and the Amazon prices and page number listings to the bibliography, but it will be slow going till about December 14.
