Cycle or set: In the Almost Evening

Cycle Comments: Although this is listed in the catalog as three songs, the three poems are set to blend seemlessly from one to the other creating one indivisible piece. The piece is dedicated to and written for Esther Lamneck for The Saturn Trio. The following are the pertinent parts of the composer's foreward:

My trio, In the Almost Evening, is a nocturne for soprano, clarinet and piano. The soprano is used as both a textless musical instrument as well as a traditional vocal soloist. The poetry of the composition is by the Canadian poet, Joy Kogawa.

Cycle or set: Ladies of Their Nights and Days

Cycle Comments: From the composer: "Ladies of Their Nights and Days is designed for a singing actress with great musical and dramatic skills. Each song is a different character in a different European setting. The piece has been performed in both concert and theatrical venues. The piano accompaniments are orchestral and challenging, but a lot of fun for an accomplished pianist." Also, "The first singer to perform "Ladies" was Janette Ogg at the Shenandoah College and Conservatory of Music in Winchester, Virginia. Lynnen Yakes premiered the expanded version at Weill Recital Hall in New York City."
