Review:
I am hoping to perform this set and like it quite a bit so far in my preparations. The French is difficult for me to translate, with my very limited knowledge. The music's sound is most easily described by pointing to the style of Les Six, the group of French composers from the first half of this century of which the most famous is Poulenc. The six composers of this set are not all in the group dubbed "Les Six," but Poulenc is, and perhaps Auric and Milhaud also, if memory serves.

 * * *  I liked this book. It seemed pretty subjective in some of its conclusions but the ideas were interesting and perhaps a psychologist would tell me the conclusions were well-researched.
