v03.n271 from Amysvox@aol.com: it is a fabulous book. It has almost all the
standard lieder. It is arranged by composer and includes most works by
Schubert, Brahms, Wolf, Mahler, Schumann, and I think Wagner and Beethoven (I
didn't even know they wrote lieder!). The important thing is the structure:
Each entry has the German lyrics with a direct English translation directly
underneath. Then alongside is a transliteration. This transliteration is
not just a poetic idea but an equally lovely translation of the German poem.
I can't tell you how wonderful a resource this book is. It has already
helped me to better understand pieces I have sung for years. I just wish it
included Mozart lieder.
