News Archive: Page 1 of 2711/16/99: (Long Awaited) Site UpdateOK guys. We have a bunch of additions this week. I am most excited about the new song clips that have been added: I put in more than half of the song clips that I was sitting on and more than doubled the number of song clips in the catalog! Most of Andy Vores songs, most of Lori Laitman's songs, all three of John Frantzen's songs, and a number of Dan Locklair songs now have song clips. And more are coming from other composers, including Mark Scearce, Malcolm Forsyth, and others! I would be remiss to not be excited about the new songs in the catalog as well, though. A number of great songs are newly in the catalog, including songs by David Wolfson, Dan Locklair, Lori Laitman, Rich Caruso, and others. More will be coming from David and Rich; most of Dan Locklair's and Lori Laitman's songs are in the catalog now. You will also notice some reorganization in the song catalog, notably the removal of the pitch indices, the period index, and the audio clip index. All (including the audio clip index, thanks to a new feature) are replaced with the Catalog Search. Incidentally, I also changed the Catalog Search form so that it only lists the languages in which we have some songs, so as to limit disappointment of singers looking for songs in Spanish and Russian (of which we have none so far). If you like English, though, you're in luck! :-) Along with a bit of Chinese, German, French, Latin, etc., English is what we have. Some day soon I am going to start promoting the New York Festival of Song concerts here; meanwhile, check out their web site via the link on the art song page to see what is coming up. That reminds me that we saw Suzanne Mentzer's recital at Tully Hall this weekend: what a beautiful voice! I suppose I can start promoting the Bronx Opera performance that I'm in: Marc Blitzstein's Regina will be performed in January in the Bronx and Manhattan. I'll be performing the role of Ben Hubbard. I think it will be a great show. It certainly is a great piece...a brilliant cross between musical theatre and opera that was inspired by Weill (and directly inspirational to Bernstein). Hopefully it will be performed more and more. Have a great week! Song Catalog

11/10/99: No UpdateI'm afraid I didn't make it. I made 15 new audio clips and have added several new songs but have a few more hours worth of work before it all can be posted to the site. Maybe I can make it later this week, or maybe it will all be in next week's update. The Stephen Salters recital was very nice. We particularly enjoyed his Schubert and Poulenc sets (he did Chansons Gaillardes, that naughty man); the contemporary set War Songs by Bostonian Julian Wachner was also effective, especially the second song. Perhaps we can add Wachner's songs to the catalog at some point soon! We attended the concert with Lori Laitman, who gave us some clips from her upcoming art song cd: very attractive, moving music, performed by excellent musicians. Her music is very much worth a listen--and you will be able to listen here soon! Some clips will be up in the next update from the upcoming cd, along with some clips of songs by John Frantzen and Andy Vores. Have a good day!
