The last news entry here on daringdiva.com, from November 23, 1999, closed with, "We're taking this week off. Have a good one!" Pretty long week. To sum up, we are trying to get the site back to a regular schedule of updates--a yet-to-be-determined schedule that will initially have to be slower-paced than the one we tried to maintain before. Our thanks to the many people who wrote in with news, well-wishes, and more during our unannounced hiatus. We are doing ok. This week we have some long-overdue link additions (like the ones to composer Lee Hoiby and soprano Teresa Zylis-Gara on the art song links page) and new song and book information as listed below. More songs and song clips that we received during the past few months will appear slowly. Unfortunately I was unable to announce a recital by Renee Fleming of Ernst Bacon songs (among other composers' works), the free art song concert of the Marilyn Horne Foundation, the recital of Jake Heggie's songs, and various other events that have now passed. However . . . I am now trying to revamp daringdiva from bottom to top so that it is easier to administer for us and easier to use and contribute to for you. This is a huge project, so don't hold your breath. I'm hoping I'll have something to show by end of summer. Now I just have a basic page redesign, a revamped database structure, and a revamped site structure all laid out in notes. I'm also hoping to buy the website name "daringdiva.org" and rename the site to clarify the fact that this is a non-profit kind of thing (the ".com" in "daringdiva.com" stands for "commercial", but in my naivete I thought that didn't matter). In any case, if I manage it, daringdiva will be even more helpful and much more responsive to user announcements, and our impossibly busy schedules will not get in the way as much.
